Quick DIY Dollar Tree Gift

Typical procrastinator and forgetful shopper that I am, I realized on Thursday night that I had forgotten to pick up a gift for my First Grader’s teacher on Friday. So, I set out to make something with things that I had on hand.

I had picked up a couple of Dollar Tree Graduation Frames (picture on one side, tassels on the other) a while back just to have on hand. Also, when I redid my daughter’s bedroom last Spring I had a variety of card stock and gift bags leftover (framed interesting gift bags or pizza boxes covered in gift bags/wrapping paper make easy cheap wall hangings).

I used the paper from inside the graduation frame to trace a template for cutting onto the gift bag. This gift bag had a little matching cutout attached to the ribbon handle. I cut the ribbon and attached the cutout with the ribbon to the hole in the picture mat where the tassels were. Then I glued the mat onto the gift bag that I had cut.

I used Word and picked the teacher’s last initial. Changed the font size to 300 and selected a font style that I liked. I found a monogram font site and typed in the word teacher and it created an image that I was able to copy and paste into the Word document with the L monogram. I printed the document onto white cardstock and cut out the letters. Then I glued them in place, put the frame together and put it in a gift bag. Total project cost was probably around $3.

Here is the before and after photo of the frame.
